Sexual Violence and Mental Health
摘要
Sexual violence has been traditionally a silenced reality in the occidental culture. In the last years, an intense debate about this universal phenomenon was initiated, making visible the inequalities related to identity and gender roles adopted in different sexual and affective practices, which can condition the diverse experiences of sexual violence. This chapter will address the psychological consequences that women who are victims of sexual violence might have to face, from a gender-aware and intersectional perspective. For that purpose, we will analyze different psychosocial factors involved in the discovery of sexuality and sexual desire. This approach will allow us to adopt a more integrative perspective to address the roots and expressions of this type of violence. We will also take into account the psychological impact of working with this type of victims on professionals in different contexts. Overall, we will include in this chapter tools to facilitate the approach to and understanding of such a complex phenomenon, minimizing the possible revictimization that can impact women who have experienced sexual violence.
