This chapter presents an overview of the conceptual and mathematical studies of chirality by Thomson (Lord Kelvin) in 1856 and 1884/1904. Maxwell also had an early concept of chirality. It is shown that Thomson’s study of chirality may be rooted in MacCullagh’s and Rankine’s works. Chirality is ubiquitous in nature and the universe.

摘要

This chapter presents an overview of the conceptual and mathematical studies of chirality by Thomson (Lord Kelvin) in 1856 and 1884/1904. Maxwell also had an early concept of chirality. It is shown that Thomson’s study of chirality may be rooted in MacCullagh’s and Rankine’s works. Chirality is ubiquitous in nature and the universe.
