The Mathematical Studies of the Zero-Vorticity Condition of Fluid Motion and Vorticity from 1752 to 1827
摘要
This chapter presents an overview of the early mathematical studies of the zero-vorticity condition of the fluid motion from 1752 to 1757 and also provides a detailed account of the mathematical studies of vorticity of the fluid motion from 1760 to 1827. Those studies were made by famous mathematicians, i.e. d’Alembert, Euler, Lagrange, Cauchy, etc. Among them, Lagrange’s time derivative of vorticity has been significant and may have stimulated Helmholtz’s work on vortex motion.
