Tracing the historical development of green spaces in Metro Manila underscores their evolving role and importance in the city's urban planning and community well-being. It holds significant importance for its impact on urban sustainability and environmental health. However, despite its significant role in the built environment, historical research that analyzes its development and transformation over time is limited. This study aims to provide a comprehensive historical analysis of public nature parks in Metro Manila, examining the socio-political, economic, and environmental factors that have influenced their changes. This study examines the development and transformation of urban green spaces in the Philippine capital from the late nineteenth century to the present day. Data are collected and assessed through archival research utilizing historical documentation, urban planning records, and case studies of specific green spaces within Metro Manila. These case studies are paralleled with international case studies, particularly with global trends in development and maintenance of public green spaces. Through this analysis, the study highlights how important it is to include historical viewpoints in modern urban planning with the objective of improving the resilience and sustainability of Metro Manila's public green areas.
