The Importance of Preserving Lampung Manuscripts as Material Culture Heritage
摘要
Lampung is a civilization area located on the eastern tip of Sumatra Island, Indonesia. This area possesses a treasure trove of precious relics, such as manuscripts, but the current understanding held by the community remains limited. Therefore, this research aimed to examine the current condition and contents of several Lampung manuscripts in the possession of the community. A qualitative-descriptive design and philological method were adopted by using the theory of codicology to analyze the physical aspects of manuscripts. The results showed that the condition of the manuscripts was poor due to limited knowledge and understanding of the owners. Moreover, the cultural heritage was stored in unsuitable locations, such as attics, cupboards, and small wallets. The local government does not pay attention to the existence of manuscripts, containing information on cultural civilizations and ancestral nations.
