Along with the shoemaking industry established in the late nineteenth century up to the present, the proliferation of shoemaking shophouses became prevalent as a typical domestic building typology in Marikina City, Philippines. The work-live set-up has gone a long way from being a backyard or cottage business in the basement or silong of the house to its well-established factories and footwear manufacturing companies locally known as pagawaan. As it shelters the city's intangible cultural heritage, analyzing the historical and cultural relevance of the structure is essential, which significantly reinforces and contributes to the embodiment of the community-engaging industry and distinctiveness of the city. Local and international related literature and studies on the historical and cultural background, accompanied by the selected shoemaking shophouses as case studies, were utilized to understand further and support the whole research discourse. Through thematic analysis of space, such as the Concept-Construct-Theme (CCT) Method, the study systematically extracted specific themes that encapsulate the common perceived meanings and values of the structure. This includes as a significant structure, a symbol of artistry and achievements, a source of living, a sense of identity, a repository of memories, and a place of congregation. Thus, it was found that these are examples of built heritage worth conserving and preserving, tantamount to the importance of both the tangible and intangible cultural and place identities of Marikeños and the entire city.

摘要
