Augmented reality is already used in some fields of 3D printing, such as education or medicine. Our research is in the field of spare parts aboard ships. In order to improve research capabilities, we experiment with new technologies to help researches. The paper presents an idea how to organize data for materials research in the field of 3D printing. Computer vision is used as a tool for recognition of 3D-printed samples. Augmented reality is proposed as an efficient way to show data about the sample. We present preliminary results of the case study. The measure for comparison of input image sample and real sample in memory is proposed. The purpose is to distinguish different 3D-printed samples.
