While in antiquity the indivisibility of atoms (atomos = gr. indivisible) had been postulated, today this designation is still accepted only concerning their chemical quality. Discoveries at the beginning of the twentieth century lead to insight that atoms must have a dedicated structure unlike a simple compact mass spherule.
