In this chapter, generalized functions are defined, and some of their properties are deduced. The Laplace equation is introduced. The basic properties of elliptic problems, the fundamental solutions, integral representation of harmonic functions, mean-value formulas, strong principle of maximum, the Poisson equation, the Green functions, method of separation of variables, and theorems of Liouville and Harnack are given.
