This work aims to study the influence of soil properties on the deformation of a foundation plate resting on an elastic soil. A model based on the Vlasov-foundation theory is proposed. First, we have shown the existence and uniqueness of the solution of the problem by using the Lax–Milgram theorem. Then, numerical simulations by finite elements are carried out with the FreeFem++ software to determine the deformations of the plate depending on the different values of the soil and plate parameters. This study has also shown that the parameters of the sub-grade are more influential on the deformation of the plate than those of the plate itself.
