In a dynamic and uncertain world, processes are constantly subject to change and adaptations, driven by factors such as changing regulations and market conditions, implementing new strategic technologies such as AI, as well as process optimization efforts. Process change has been investigated for a long time and several formal foundations are provided including inheritance concepts and state-oriented compliance verification mechanisms. This work revisits these formal foundations and puts them into the context of current challenges and developments.
