Integrative Modelling of Three Complementary Research Strands: The Model of Biocultural City
摘要
This chapter undertakes the task of integrating the multiple strands of evidence gathered throughout this research into a coherent analytical framework. Through the methodological lens of triangulation, it brings into dialogue the digital representations of Ixelles’ governance and identity, the quantitative data reflecting residents’ perceptions and satisfaction levels, and the qualitative accounts that articulate everyday experiences of inclusion, sustainability, and belonging. The purpose of this integration is not merely to validate findings across methods, but to deepen understanding by identifying intersections, tensions, and complementarities between different forms of knowledge. By employing triangulation as both an analytical and epistemological instrument, this chapter seeks to construct a multidimensional portrait of Ixelles—one that captures the interplay between institutional discourse, measurable performance, and lived experience, thereby advancing a reflexive comprehension of urban governance and intercultural life. In addition, this chapter develops and operationalizes the concept of the biocultural city as an integrative model for understanding the interdependence between cultural, ecological, and social dimensions of urban sustainability. It conceptualizes the city as a living system in which culture functions not as an aesthetic or symbolic addendum, but as a structuring and transformative force that mediates relations between people, place, and governance.
