摘要
It is crucial, in the evolving world of AI which is taking the world by a storm, to situate the place of this technology in education. AI is a major role player in education 3.0. AI is a great advancement in technology; the watchword is to foster proper use and practice of these technologically innovative educational tools. The aim of this research is to probe into students’ performance, interaction dynamics and usefulness of tutor support in an AI setting for the learning of a beginner’s French module for higher education. AI learning tools come with advantages as well as drawbacks. Anchored by a qualitative analysis and benefitting from the participation of a group of 24 students learning and upgrading their French written skills, this research intends to shed light in an aspect of AIEd, AI for Education, that is not common in the existing literature. The data is analysed by evaluating student's written assignments. Students while using the ChatGPT AI tool submitted better written pieces than writings submitted solely produced by students themselves without the aid of ChatGPT. Semi structured interviews shed light on the crucial role of face-to-face tutor support in an AI induced educational setting as well as all the dynamics which revolved in enhancing students’ performance while using ChatGPT. Semi structured interview, students’ activities submissions and observation have made possible the proposal of an AI interaction model for higher education.
