French and Italian News Media Tweets and Comments About 8–9 May 2022 Commemorations: What Place for European Belonging?
摘要
Based on the French Le Monde and Le Figaro, as well as the Italian Corriere della sera and Repubblica Twitter accounts, this chapter analyses the evolution of commemoration discourse in Europe and its reception after Russian invasion of Ukraine, its condemnation and the promotion of shared values in Europe. Attention will be paid to the end of WWII and to the birth of Europe celebrations, on 8 and 9 May 2022, which will be analysed by considering Twitter and the news media as “dispositifs”, starting from tweets published by the news media mentioned above, collected from 6 to 13 May 2022, and from tweets posted by people answering the original tweets. The media representations of these commemorations and their reception will be linked to the 2022 context. It will be assumed that the journalists’ and the audience’s representation of these events and of Europe is different, in order to ask whether a shared “European collective memory” inscribed in the tweets and in their comments about 8 and 9 May celebrations is possible. Methodology will be based on the French Discourse Analysis approach to media tools organisation, and on the positions of all the instances involved, whereas illustrations will be analysed via a Peircean approach.
