In the spring of 2024, I attended an evacuation planning meeting at a charter school in a small intact community in the foothills that would soon be tested by the Park Fire. The meeting was squeezed between long volunteer shifts of brush clearing and tree trimming to make the school safer from wildfires. While the volunteers ate their lunches, our team shared the proposed evacuation routes and assembly points.
