The Information Literacy Landscape in Germany – Challenges, Best Practices, and Trends
摘要
This paper provides an overview of the landscape of information literacy (IL) in German academic and public libraries. Following studies in 2001 which highlighted deficits in students’ reading and information skills, efforts to enhance IL culminated in the formation of networks and standards, in a diversity of IL programs and curricular integration. Despite structural and organizational heterogeneity, collaboration between stakeholders is increasing, emphasizing the role of libraries as partners in education. The paper synthesizes statements, statistics, and studies to develop a meta-perspective on IL activities in Germany, describing the status quo and highlighting best practices. The discussion shows opportunities and challenges, as well as key topics in future trends. It demonstrates how the diversity of activities in all German federal states provides an opportunity to develop new initiatives and effectively establish IL in the digital age.
