Visualizing Information Literacy
摘要
Information literacy is important for students as well as teachers and is a key competency for learners. It has been found that classroom teachers do not have skills to meet their own information needs and have a limited understanding of information literacy instruction. The current study builds on work by Botturi and Beretta pre-service educators’ development of video instruction by seeking to understand information-seeking behaviors of school librarian candidates. Participants created a one- to three-minute video using screencasting software demonstrating search strategies to find credible information. Videos were analyzed using Ring & Brahm’s Rating Framework for the Quality of Video Explanations. Results support the hypothesis that candidates are still developing information-seeking skills and may over-rely on technical skills. The results of this study will inform and guide the practice of school librarianship graduate programs in developing curriculum to scaffold skill development and demonstration.
