Astronomers have found that galactic ecosystems contain rich concoctions of organic chemicals and complex chemistries. These molecules are thought to form on the icy surfaces of microscopic dust grains. Photolytic processing by UV radiation from hot stars can further alter their makeup. Some of these molecules have biotic potential.
