Folding Paper Circles, Cells and Holism
摘要
At first glance, there would seem to be no interrelationship between ‘Paper Circles, Cells and Holism’. That is until one witness Bradford Hansen-Smith’s demonstration for folding paper circles, generating polygons (Hansen-Smith 2023), making one wonder what’s actually going on? As Hansen-Smith goes through his routine he tells you to fold the circle in half, making sure that the surfaces are properly aligned. He then creases the semi-circular form using a straight-edge, and opens the paper circle up to reveal the longest creasing of the circle, or the diameter. He continues folding the paper circle to reveal various polygons, which is remarkable given that Hansen-Smith started with a curved surface, but then I realized that a circle is a polygon with an infinite number of sides, which might explain how and why the folding process revealed polygons.
