This chapter features a detailed discussion of Lefebvre’s work, and how his thinking has influenced this project. His key ideas are introduced—spatial trialectics, abstract and differential space, State mode of production—and their empirical application discussed. The constellation of theoretical frameworks and approaches that will be used to explore camp space empirically will be outlined, including the core concept of spatial production and spatial contestation.
