This chapter examines the current applications of AI technologies in supporting bilingual language development in preschool and primary schools. AI-driven tools offer personalized, culturally responsive learning experiences that can promote heritage language acquisition. However, challenges remain, including biases in speech recognition technologies, effectively handling code-switching, and the limitations of ASR systems in accurately recognizing bilingual speech. This chapter will review existing research on the integration of AI in bilingual education and explore future directions for overcoming these technological barriers to create more inclusive and effective learning environments for young multilingual learners.
