Artificial Intelligence (AI) has evolved from a novel idea in education to a powerful element in teaching and learning. However, effectively integrating AI tools into school contexts remains challenging for many educators, especially in early years education. This chapter addresses these challenges by providing ethical, responsible, and practical strategies to help early years educators navigate obstacles and seize opportunities presented by such new technologies. We focus particularly on mathematics education, which poses unique challenges for adopting large language models (LLMs) due to various technical and pedagogical factors. We present a series of high-level summaries outlining innovative AI applications that could facilitate teaching in early childhood education, such as adaptive learning and personalised education. To help educators understand real-world applications of responsible AI use, we present a list of use cases and classroom activity examples that focus on practical strategies for integrating AI into early childhood mathematics education. We conclude by discussing several ethical considerations for young children, including screen time, age-appropriate content, and critical media literacy.

摘要
