In this chapter, we walk through the efforts necessary to conceive, design, and implement a full semantic layer framework. First, we outline our methodology for semantic layer’s implementation, detailing the important first step of defining your organization’s vision, goals, and use cases, and describing methods of assessment that will allow your organization to adjust the scope and feasibility of these goals to your existing architecture and current-state knowledge assets. Then, we summarize best practices for the design and modeling of the core semantic layer components, explore three semantic layer architectures, and discuss the engineering required to integrate the semantic layer into your organization’s existing infrastructure. Finally, we propose possible governance plans and organizational structure to support the long-term iteration and operation of the framework.

摘要
