The aim of the present research is to analyse the language of power—and queenship in particular—in the specific context of the Shakespearean early modern period and dramatic production. Pragmatics appears as the most suitable methodology for the task, as it focuses on the concrete use of language, tying the more aleatory matter of literary reconstructed discourse to the background of actual language usage.
