The objective of this chapter is to provide a more precise definition of the notion of contract, around which Hampton’s feminist philosophy is articulated. The chapter examines the various theoretical influences that underpin the concept of contract proposed by the philosopher. In particular, it considers both the Hobbesian and Kantian contractarian models (as well as their subsequent reinterpretations within contemporary philosophical debate). Hampton’s position entails a reconciliation of these two traditions, in order to articulate what she regards as the most desirable form of contract: one in which the interests of all parties are fully respected, within a framework of equity and complete reciprocity. Through the lens of game theory, the chapter illustrates how the contract can serve as a useful instrument for analyzing the mechanisms governing affective relationships and, consequently, for suggesting potential remedies for the injustices that occur within the private sphere.

摘要
