摘要
Faced with a political environment in which the social psychopathy of greed, unreason, and intemperance is exacerbated by the disinfotainment of social media, the hope for a positive transformational politics may seem overly optimistic. However, it is vital that the conditions needed to bring about eudaimonic change be articulated in order that they can be developed. First, the foundations of a civil society need to be restored in order that the populus is more inclined to opt for transformational politics characterised by sustainability, empowerment, and transcendence. Second, politicians need to be imbued with the intellectual and moral virtues needed to make good judgements. A distillation of these virtues will be rendered in four characteristics of transformational politicians: authenticity, compassion, articulate communication, and courage. In the cut and thrust of politics, successful politicians need to exercise mētis. Practical examples are used to explain these concepts at work.
