Enhancing Transformational Wisdom Through Indigenous Wisdom Pedagogy
摘要
This chapter argues that Indigenous wisdom pedagogy can strengthen transformational wisdom to deal with socio-ecological crises. Drawing upon Freirean critical education philosophy and by reflecting on community-based Indigenous schools’ practices (Adat schools) in Indonesia, we identify four main principles of Indigenous wisdom pedagogy that we theorize as ecoculture pedagogy. The theory contributes to understanding how Indigenous wisdom can be integrated into contemporary educational and training programs. The four principles of ecoculture pedagogy include community-based learning and support, learning ancestral roots and traditions, outdoor ecological experiential learning, and critical consciousness of injustice and unsustainability. We discuss implications and provide suggestions for future studies and the practice of wisdom pedagogy. We propose that ecoculture pedagogy can nurture wise Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals who are transformational in creating a just and sustainable world.
