This chapter explores campus-based affordancesAffordances that encourage healthy activities at a large urban university in Southeast Queensland, Australia, using a case study approach. Qualitative findings drawn from in-person focus groups with staff participants suggest numerous barriers and enablers of workplace physical activityPhysical activity and other health-supportive behaviours. The most discussed enabler was the supportive outdoor campus environment that includes green spaces for meetings and breaks, and opportunities for active commuting. Common barriers included limitations of the physical officeOffice space, and the uncomfortable outdoor climate and environment. The chapter concludes with a discussion of recommended design affordancesAffordances to create more health promoting campus environments that support positive human-building interactionsHuman-building interaction.
