摘要
This introductory chapter outlines the parameters of the study, specifically this book’s focus on British and North American minicomics, how they are made, shared, and stored, the affective histories that surround them, and the implications of the affect that minicomics generate for conceptualizing the subject who photocopies them. This chapter provides definitions of key terms such as “photocopy” and “minicomics” and explains how Mini-Thoughts on Minicomics draws upon comics history, media archaeology, folklore studies, workplace ethnography, published interviews, ontology of paperwork, and critical theory. As a way of summarizing relevant scholarly debates, this chapter ends by addressing three key questions: how far is the drawn line the index of the person who drew it? Is a minicomic a work of art or a commodity exchanged for money (or both)? How perfect are the reproductions that a photocopier makes?
