Investigation of Security Challenges and Analysis of Evaluation Tools for IoT Devices
摘要
The resource-limited and interconnected IoT has posed great security challenges when deploying the IoT rapidly. In this work, the worst types of vulnerabilities, such as malware and botnet-based, weak authentication, and insecure communication protocols, are studied. Various popular intrusion detection and prevention tools, such as Snort, Nessus, and Wireshark, were closely examined and proved to be extremely useful; e.g., Snort could assist with 90% of all intrusions. The study also points out that vulnerabilities in the IoT could grow up to 400× over the coming years, from just over 10 in 2015 to more than 50 in 2024, requiring scalable security solutions. In addition, severity analysis identifies which challenges are high priority, indicating that these challenges need to be addressed immediately. This approach allows the anticipation of potential vulnerabilities and ensures prospects for the existence of operational security possibilities in IoT applications.
