Chapter 3 is about new children and staff and what helps them settle into a new placement or organisation. Using attachment theory, it looks at how early and past experiences shape the children and young people’s responses to transitions. The chapter discusses the new relationship-building needed when a child arrives, but also, the need to appreciate the child’s loss of other important relationships. The latter part of the chapter looks at the importance of processes of staff induction and support.
