Decolonial Approaches to Therapy and Clinical Practice
摘要
This chapter explores decolonial and culturally attuned approaches to therapy and clinical practice for South Asian populations, integrating theoretical and practical frameworks to address shame, trauma, and intergenerational patterns. It examines Jungian approaches to confronting the shadow, a culturally adapted Adlerian framework, and interventions targeting the internal critic, self-awareness, and self-compassion. The chapter further explores narrative therapy for identity reauthoring, somatic therapies for embodied safety, EMDR for memory reconsolidation, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) for relational and intrapsychic integration. Beyond individual therapy, it addresses culturally competent home–school partnerships and community-based interventions, including programmes such as Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA), demonstrating a holistic approach to healing that bridges clinical, cultural, and community contexts.
