This chapter discusses the basic concepts of computer science. Topics reviewed include the components of computers and software, the fundamentals of communications and networking, data, storage, as well as a review of programming languages often used in health informatics. A real-life case study is included which ties together these concepts and theories throughout this chapter. Knowledge check questions are included at the end of this chapter to assist learning.
