In this study, we explore the potential of ResilienceBOT (RB), a customised AI-powered digital companion, to support university students in Africa in building resilience and enhancing well-being. Following a gamified training on character strengths in education, five students participated in a two-week RB intervention. Thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews conducted one week after the initial training revealed that participants had improved their resilience by 21% in resilience, their well-being by 43%, and their positive education by 15%. After RB intervention, we noted improvements of 8%, 2%, and 40%, respectively. This indicates that the impact on wellbeing has been sustained and that there has been an increase in positive education and resilience. We also recorded improvements in participants’ self-awareness, growth mindset, interpersonal skills and overall mental health. Thus, our research contributes to the growing field of Positive Education (PosEd) and also promotes scalable, AI-enhanced interventions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We aim to improve student well-being and support the development of ethical, resilient future leaders in African higher education.

摘要
