Building Codes and Energy Standards: Pathways Toward Zero Energy Buildings
摘要
This chapter discusses the role of building codes and standards aimed at achieving net-zero energy targets globally. It offers an overview of the role building energy codes in regulating energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and sustainable construction practices across diverse national contexts. The chapter compares international frameworks and strategic policies, highlighting the strengths and limitations of current regulations in fostering energy-efficient and carbon–neutral buildings. Emphasizing the critical importance of climate-responsive design, occupant comfort, and lifecycle considerations, it explores how these factors influence the effectiveness of building energy standards. Furthermore, the chapter discusses challenges such as inconsistent enforcement, retrofit regulation gaps, embodied carbon, and stakeholder engagement issues. By synthesizing global goals and country-specific initiatives, the chapter provides a robust foundation for professionals and policymakers to understand and advance the transition towards sustainable, net-zero energy buildings.
