Like Andrew Undershaft’s money and gunpowder in Major Barbara, AI is a raw power that must be used carefully. Shaw advocates that economic, moral, and spiritual power must pass from Undershaft’s money and gunpowder to the safe and constructive use of these powers by Barbara and Cusins. AI, especially Large Language Models (LLMs), was used to reconstruct the economic, moral, and spiritual power landscape in the years that led up to 1905 when Major Barbara was written. This is a massive amount of metadata. Hence this chapter in particular demonstrates the tremendous visualization powers of LLMs and the various ways they can generate visual images, charts, tables, and timelines to organize and make sense of the metadata, as well as make complex processes and networks readily discernible and accessible. This chapter examines the power structure in Major Barbara carried out a controlled experiment to see how many levels of training were needed to ensure the LLMs would provide accurate analyses and avoid hallucinations. Before LLMs could be used to explore and visualize a vast corpus of materials, the LLM was trained using a manageable sample and topic to work out a reliable framework of training strategy before paddling out to the open sea.
