In the introductory chapter of this book, we discuss the focus of this book and rationale for writing it, reflected through our own in-game multiplayer game experiences: we want to provide a theorization and discussion of learning in team-based competitive games for future teachers, educators, parents, and researchers to lean on and rely on in their own work, be it practical, theoretical, or both. We discuss central concepts and previous research on networked and competitive gameplay and youth online, as well as highlight the complexities of doing research with young White men participants. Finally, we discuss balancing the educational and critical perspectives on games and gaming which are the core of this book.

摘要
