Islamophobia’s Impact on Muslim Women Physicians: Challenges and Resilience of American and International Medical Graduates
摘要
This chapter explores the multifaceted experiences of Muslim female physicians in the United States, including American medical graduates and international medical graduates (IMGs). Drawing on anecdotal accounts and relevant literature, we examine how visible expressions of faith, such as wearing the hijab, contribute to compounded experiences of discrimination in professional settings. We also discuss how these experiences are shaped by intersecting identities of gender, religion, and immigrant status. Despite these challenges, Muslim female physicians display resilience and commitment to their practice. Recommendations for inclusive healthcare environments and cultural competency training are also provided.
