Biophilic Design in Airports and its Contribution to Health and Sustainability
摘要
Biophilia is a design concept that aims to demonstrate architectural buildings in a way that integrates nature and the environment within it. Biophilia design influences the perception of buildings, such as airports, to bring comfort and pleasure to passengers during their journey, while remaining sustainable. The beauty of biophilia and the origins of the concept will be discussed in this paper, focusing on the historical concept of it. There are benefits of implementing biophilic designs in architectural spaces (like airports), and some of them are to reduce stress, improve health performance, and improve productivity and creativity. The application of biophilic design can have a positive impact on both health and sustainable environmental areas. The case study analyzes different airports, in terms of green airport design evaluation to understand the implications of having sustainable green buildings and the influence it has on individuals and the environment. The paper conducts research on qualitative and quantitative methods, such as energy-efficient assessment, air quality monitoring, and user experience. With the application of different studying methods, biophilic design will be understood more effectively. Few changes were recommended, to further improve the quality of the biophilic design conceptualization in airports and the feasibility of practicing it in the future.
