Well-Being as a Condition for Employee Creativity
摘要
This study aims to investigate the role of psychological needs (autonomy, competence, and relatedness) in fostering employee creativity, with a particular focus on the mediating role of employee well-being. Based on the literature review, the study developed a conceptual model depicting the relationships between psychological needs, employee well-being, and employee creativity. A confirmatory factor analysis using structural equation modeling (SEM CFA) was employed to test the model empirically. Data were collected in 2023 through a computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) method from a representative sample of 1000 economically active Polish employees. The results confirm a significant positive relationship between psychological needs and employee creativity, which is predominantly mediated by employee well-being. The direct path from psychological needs to employee creativity was not statistically significant, whereas the indirect effect through well-being was strong and highly significant. This highlights the importance of employee well-being as a key mechanism through which psychological needs influence creativity. This study empirically validates a conceptual model connecting psychological needs to employee creativity through employee well-being. It highlights the importance of organizations to support psychological needs (autonomy, competence, and relatedness) as a means to holistically enhance well-being and, in turn, foster employee creativity.
