The millet supply chain stands to be transformed by blockchain technology, which offers enhanced visibility, tracking, and productivity from production to consumption. For millets, a traditional crop known for its resilience to climate change, blockchain can tackle significant issues such as food adulteration, quality control, and inefficiencies in distribution. This chapter focuses on the use of blockchain in the entire value chain for millet from input acquisition, farming practices, milling, packaging, and finally, consumer reach. Blockchain’s capacity for real-time supply chain monitoring can verify product authenticity, expand market opportunities for small-scale growers, and provide consumers with detailed information on the source and sustainability of millet products. The implementation of blockchain-based smart contracts further streamlines transactions, promoting fair trade and prompt payments. Additionally, this chapter also highlights examples of blockchain-enabled millet supply chains and considers the future potential of combining blockchain with the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to achieve more accurate and secure agricultural practices.

摘要
