Although subterranean defense shelters may be found in many different regions of the world, the province of Cappadocia, which is located in Central Anatolia, is particularly renowned for these structures. The underground shelters of Cappadocia, which was an important region for both Rome and Byzantium, have been the subject of a great number of publications. However, most of these publications provide basic information and are insufficient to address the history, types, or construction techniques of these structures. Additionally, there is a lack of a comprehensive database documenting these shelters of Cappadocia. This work attempts to fill these deficiencies.
