This concluding chapter outlines the main findings from my close readings, indicating the most important contributions that my study makes to the fields of (literary) mobility studies, to Transcultural English Studies and to the Environmental Humanities. I indicate possible directions for future research, including the application of the concept of transcultural automobilities to other genres and the need to explore road narratives set in Africa. Moreover, I close with a reflection on the road narrative’s role at a time when cars are in crisis due to their environmental impact and the genre’s potential and limitations for producing new imaginaries of driving.
