As a contributor to over one-third of global and European greenhouse gas emissions, the construction industry plays a pivotal role in the fight against climate change. In this context, the reuse of steel structural components emerges as an effective strategy, with the potential to make a significant contribution to the decarbonisation of the European industry. The objective of this research is to analyse developments in building sustainability studies, with a particular focus on energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions. Subsequently, the role of reuse within Green Building Rating Systems is examined, and a simplified approach is proposed for assessing the benefits of component reuse versus recycling or production from virgin materials, considering multiple life cycles.

摘要
