摘要

Water is a vital resource for human life and ecosystems, making efficient water supply management a critical priority for many countries. Challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, and rapid population growth, coupled with expanding industrial activities and rising global water demand, highlight the need for advanced management strategies. Recent advancements in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) and decision-making (DM) techniques have driven development and implementation of smart systems, revolutionizing industry water sector. This research aims to explore research gaps, key opportunities, and best practices for enhancing water supply systems and management through a literature review of renowned journals published between 2020 and 2025. It provides a detailed analysis of the models, methods, technologies, and data applied in water supply systems, using mapping diagrams to classify the main research and data sources. Findings of this research will provide both researchers and practitioners with a valuable reference for selecting alternative methods to improve water supply systems and enhance the efficiency of water utility operations.
