From Concept to Reality: Deploying 5G Enabled Robots in Complex Forest Scenarios
摘要
With the advent of the New Radio era, we discuss the transformative impact of 5G technologies on rural applications, particularly in the fields of forestry and agriculture, where manual labor can be automated through robotics. We highlight challenges faced by robotic systems in outdoor environments, such as GNSS limitations and sensory drift, and consider the potential of integrating 5G cellular technology as a complementary localization source, improving the precision and reliability of robotic navigation. In particular, this chapter presents developments in NR5G-COOP, the multi-robot version of our framework, within a forest, exploring UAV cooperation for enhanced radio localization and assessing the outcomes of these experiments. This is currently a work in progress and we aim to explore the capabilities of our cooperative radio localization framework in forest areas, where anchor visibility is obstructed, LiDAR-inertial based systems drift and GNSS may be impaired.
