Safe management of emergency care requires an ethos of close teamworking between anaesthetists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and all members of the wider multi-disciplinary team. This chapter focuses on the key aspects of collaborative discussion which may occur throughout this challenging process, together with highlighting similarities and differences to elective patient pathways and cardiac anaesthetic principles - discussion of which is beyond the scope of this summary chapter.
