Emergency Cardiac Surgery During Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation and Ventricular Arrhythmias
摘要
As the number and complexity of catheter ablation procedures being performed worldwide increase, the number of associated complications also become more frequent. Although uncommon, cardiac perforation is one of the most significant, as it can lead to pericardial effusion and tamponade that may require emergency surgical intervention. This chapter addresses diagnosis, investigations, and management of cardiac perforation during percutaneous ablation with particular focus on the surgical aspects of dealing with this potentially life-threatening complication. The chapter also discusses in brief atrio-oesophageal fistula, another severe complication with a significant mortality risk.
