A Real-Time IoT Framework for Preventing Train Derailments Due to Track Tampering
摘要
Railway safety continues to pose a major world challenge, with railway accidents frequently resulting in loss of lives, fatal injuries, and widespread infrastructure damage. Alarmingly missing from the causative factors of such occurrences remains the deliberate or inadvertent disruption of railway tracks, a situation likely to cause derailments and other safety hazards. Filling such a gap is the current contribution of an Internet of Things (IoT)-driven system developed for real-time detection and notification of track discontinuities. Incorporated in such a proposed prototype are a multiplicity of sensors, microcontrollers, NRF24L01 wireless transceivers, and a cloud-connected software backend for facilitating real-time monitoring of rail integrity. Both web and mobile interfaces are included in such a system for facilitating easy availability and accommodation of end-user interactions. Where such anomalies as tracking breaks or communication breakdown are sensed, the system instantly sends out alert notifications to centralized railway control centers, from where rapid responses are instituted for averting such risks and disasters.
