Legislation, Regulations and Standards
摘要
Standards (technical and user interface), regulations, legislation, guidelines and best practices often guide accessibility and inclusion in organizations, institutions, governments and businesses. As a result, interaction with these entities as a researcher, contractor, business or consumer involves knowing the national, local, and international standards, regulations, legislation and best practices that apply in any specific context. There are different levels of standards, regulations and policies including federal, provincial or state and local or municipal. Legal challenges can occur at any level. Being familiar with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements forms a part of a designer’s necessary toolkit. Specific standards, such as the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, or the technical details of a captioning format, are often pointed to in legislation and regulations. Designers and researchers using inclusive design practices must not only be aware of these standards and regulations but may also provide important contributions to them.
